Wardens don't usually get two temp inmates, so ask Eddie about helping with Lawrence, or Tup about Dancy. I don't know either of the wardens, but Lawrence is solid and listens if he respects you, and Dancy is another starving teenager. I'm sure you can find something to talk about.
If you want to bother Cloud, he's easy enough to get along with and can take a bit of pushing, but Trilla is me on steroids, so probably not your speed.
[Ellie lets this text sit there until the last hour of the day.]
There's a part of the cemetery that's a memorial to those people lost during the early days of the outbreak. Whoever wants to can gather there. People barbecue and talk and shit like that.
Hey listen, I know we don't talk very much, but I just wanted to say thanks a bunch for givin' "The Asset" a name. Even though its just that one letter, it makes a world of difference, Ellie.
Once he's calmed down, spoken to a couple people, and determined that he definitely can't read the little book his... person... left him yet, B gets back into his routine. Part of that routine includes checking on people, including Ellie.
After dinner but before his attempt at bedtime, he wanders by his cabin and listens in, then knocks. He's even got a plan for if she's not busy, so there's something to do instead of just trying to talk. "Can we go to the music room?" he asks. "With your guitar?"
It's always a relief when it's someone other than Tess at her door. She hasn't been very keen on talking to people that interacted with Joel or Marlene, but Bucky tends to be the exception to any antisocial tendencies.
"Sure," she agrees easily, though she lifts an eyebrow at him. "What brought this on, B?"
Hey Ellie! FYI: Larry Trainor's staking out one of the Zero cells as a little home away from home.
Apparently the Zero cells turn his radioactivity off, so he can get out of those damn bandages without sterilizing the whole room once in a while. Just wanted to let you know what's up if you run into him down there.
I'm compiling a document of information about The Barge. Cheif Zhao said I should contact you with any questions I had about Wardens in charge of Zero. Could you answer a few questions about it and your responsibilities there?
I can understand if you have limitations on the information you would want to provide to an Inmate, but anything you could offer would be appreciated.
Once the Barge deposited him back on the deck, B spent the morning fussing over the cat and then scrubbing and soaking way too long in Lark and Steve's bathtub, but he can't put it off any longer. Hair tied back, and back in three layers of hoodie and combat boots, B tracks down Ellie. He hadn't seen her on the port, or he might have reported sooner.
But he's here now. He starts at her cabin, tapping on the door with metal fingers, then will circle out from there if she's not there. He has to report. She's his warden.
She's exhausted. Dusty and filthy, but that's something she's used to more than being squeaky clean, so she's late in waking up after flopping onto her own bed once they're back. Just a few minutes. Just a little nap.
Ellie sits upright when she hears the tapping at the door. Bucky.
"Shit," she hisses, getting to her feet. She checks in on him after these things. That's her job. At least he comes to find her, and she yanks open the door, looking like she just woke up and that's because she has.
"Hey. Hey, come in," she tells him, stepping aside. The sofa awaits to be sat upon, and if there happen to be more blankets on it than before, it's probably because she thought he'd appreciate it at some point or another.
I don't know if B told you but I was kind of planning a fancy movie night, with an older movie, he said Marx Brothers maybe? Anyway I was going to dress up all nice like he said they used to in the 30's and we got to talking about you a little and I want to invite you. It'd just be us, B and you and me.
[She still isn't sure who is okay with her and who isn't so it comes all in a rush]
It feels stupid coming to Ellie's door with nothing in hand, so he has one of his books, a few of his CDs, and a folded origami cat. She's the reason he's getting out, she deserves something in thanks, right?
He taps on it with metal fingers. Ellie's one of the last ones he's saying goodbye to. It's time.
She and Dina would have stupid what-if chats. What if one day, JJ was grown and wanted to live on his own? Move out? Well, I hope he'd figure out how to not poop in his pants by then, Ellie would joke, but really she didn't like the idea of JJ leaving, even if it was nearly two decades off in some unknown future. She likes her people with her, close. She hates goodbyes. She hates losing the few she cares about.
She wanted Bucky to graduate because she would get her person back, but he'd become one of her people, too. And now she's terrified of facing Joel, of all the emotions, and so she's staying and Bucky is leaving. It's weird. Maybe not so funny.
But this was the point of it all, right? It can't be for nothing. He has to go live his life and figure the rest of the shit out.
So, when Ellie opens the door and sees B with some things in his arms, she knows it's time. She steps back so he can come in.
As soon as Tess is in Zero, Steve checks the time and sprints back up to his cabin, maybe wincing a little as he sees the mess at the end of the hallway. He makes sure both Ellie and Tess' doors are closed before he lets himself into his own cabin, setting Ellie's journal down on the desk even as his eyes go immediately to the bed and he says, "Ellie?"
She's still breathing and Libby doesn't seem distressed, still sitting by the bed, so those are already good signs, at least.
Shit. When did she fall asleep? Ellie's eyes shoot open, and she just barely stops herself from sitting up in alarm. It takes a moment of her eyes darting from side to side for her to remember what exactly happened.
It comes back as the pain in her neck makes itself known.
The call for someone to go clean up blood on Steve and Ellie's level of course sends B down there, taking the mop and bucket himself. They're both so small and squishy, he has to make sure they're both okay.
He's distracted part of the way down by blood on the stairs, scowls at it and mops it up, then continues the rest of the way down.
The blood trail leads from Ellie's door to Steve's. Ellie's room is empty. He is not encouraged by this. As always, Steve's door is unlocked, so he checks inside there, as well. "Ellie?"
Guess what, Ellie, your former inmate is nine feet tall and blue, stooping to look through the door. The expression of concern on his face is probably familiar-ish, though.
[ They did introductions around twenty minutes ago - Ellie Williams, Kristin Ortega - and Kristin assured the girl she was more than capable of handling things with minimal training. But that was before she got a good look at Zero.
Which is why Kristin sends a snapshot of a cell door with a padlock on it, a view of the interior blocked from the inside. ]
Hey - what's this?
[ Sorry to bother you while you're off work, Ellie. You're married to the job, right? ]

Yeah, well. I kinda just gave him a name that happens to start with the same letter as his real name which is a touchy subject, I guess. B's easy.

I mean, you can ask? I don't see the harm. It's really not all that exciting being on guard duty.

After the Tess incident
He's distracted part of the way down by blood on the stairs, scowls at it and mops it up, then continues the rest of the way down.
The blood trail leads from Ellie's door to Steve's. Ellie's room is empty. He is not encouraged by this. As always, Steve's door is unlocked, so he checks inside there, as well. "Ellie?"

She assumes it's Steve, come to make sure she's napping and not dead.
Ellie is suddenly unsure if she's losing blood again. She touches the bandage at her neck. Dry.
"Uh," she begins. "Steve...?"
She's tripping balls or something.

Salute, Ellie.
I am going to track down an inmate to bring to Zero. He has been soliciting substances that may be used to control others.
Prepare a cell for him, and do not let him out until this has been sufficiently resolved.
